Nutella Hazelnut Spread

Nutella, in its original form, was first created in the 1940s by Mr. Pietro Ferrero, a pastry maker and founder of the Ferrero company. At the time, cocoa was in short supply because of rationing due to World War II, so chocolate was very limited. So Mr. Ferrero used hazelnuts, which are plentiful in the Piedmont region of Italy (northwest), to extend the chocolate supply. This popular Italian treat, made of chocolate and hazelnut, is a perfect any time of the day. It is great on toasted bread, biscotti, waffles, crepes, and even dunking breadsticks into it. It is excellent with a cup of coffee, espresso, or with a cold glass of milk. Another great way to enjoy Nutella is to dip fruit, such as strawberries or bananas, into it. Nutella even makes a great peanut butter and chocolate sandwich. Also, if you want to create a unique and delicious cake, use Nutella instead of the traditional cake frosting.
